I'm off to Chicago tomorrow, but only for one night, alas. I'm attending a dinner for one of my former teachers from
TEDS, Prof.
John Woodbridge, in honor of his sixty-fifth birthday. I can think of no better words to describe Prof. Woodbridge than J. R. R. Tolkien's description of Master Elrond in
The Hobbit: "as wise as a wizard, as venerable as a king of dwarves, and as kind as summer." It will be delight to honor so fine a mentor.

I'm sure you already have a place to stay, but our pullout couch is open. - Burly in Gurnee ... and what you said about Woodbridge ... right on. Whenever I look over at him in church I think "are my eyes deceiving me or does Peter Boyle ["Everybody Loves Raymond"] go to my church?"
Hey, Matt,
Thanks for the offer--you're right, though, I am staying with my sister in Wheaton. I'm only in town for the night, so there won't be time to visit friends, but we're planning to drive through this summer on our way home, so perhaps we'll have time to stop and visit you and your'n then...
We're coming down to Kacki-lak (as they say in the homegrown rap trio from Durham) on Memorial day weekend.
