Happy Birthday, Graham!!

Our camera died in Minnesota and it's still being repaired, so I apologize for the terrible quality of these pictures taken on my ipod.
We celebrated Graham's 8th birthday today, though he officially has one more night of being seven.  David left this evening for a week long time at the base in Charleston so we celebrated Graham's big day this afternoon.
Graham started the Harry Potter series in Minnesota and decided he would like a Harry Potter cake.  After searching pinterest (like a good mother should), I pinned a few ideas and decided on a book cake, complete with Harry's scarf, wand, and a magician's hat.  I showed Graham the cake online and he said, "Well, can I show you what I was thinking of?"  Then he drew a circle on a post-it note and wrote "H" and "P" and drew a scar in between.  So, that was his cake.  It was the least complicated of any of the cakes he's had, and consequently, the most enjoyable Saturday in preparation for his birthday.  Rather than spending hours making a cake, we explored two new parks as a family and I didn't have to wash a layer of frosting and fondant off of the kitchen floor that night.  Beautiful.

We took each of the kids on a dollar store where they chose gifts for each other.  Inga bought Graham an FBI kit, complete with a whistle that doesn't whistle (score!), Will bought Graham a bow with three arrows that really shoot (rubber ends), and Bea bought Graham these funny eye ball glasses.
Graham got David Macaulay's Ship from us and his first big model kit: the Titanic.

We are so proud of the way this sweet little boy is turning into a sweet young man.  We love you, Graham!
