This is a picture of the scarlet maple tree I planted in our front yard this spring. I post it here lest any of my Yankee readers suppose that North Carolina is completely devoid of the splendors of autumn (now where would you get that idea?). As you see, it's quite lovely.

Yeah, I was going to protest your earlier post by pointing out that North Carolina may be no Vermont, but we DO get some fall color. I've been noticing it for several weeks already on the bus ride between Chapel Hill and Durham. To really get your full dose of Fall color, though, you've got to schlep on over to western NC and visit the mountains.
Your own little sample of fall is indeed quite lovely. Long live October!
